We are certainly dealing with our fair share of stress right now and, if you are a front-line responder, you are dealing with more than all of us. How are some people able to stay calm in response to daily stressors while others are easily rattled? To find the answer, let’s look to those who have mastered the art of composure under pressure: The U.S. Navy SEALs.

Few of us would argue with the fact that the U.S. Navy SEALs face some of the most unimaginable situations any human could encounter—and remain calm. What is their secret? SEALs use something called BOX BREATHING which regulates their physiology and therefore helps control their psychology. Which boils down to: control the body and the mind will follow. So what is box breathing?

1. Breathe in for four seconds.
2. Hold air in your lungs for four seconds.
3. Exhale for four seconds.
4. Hold your breath, lungs emptied, for four seconds.

We are in unprecedented times. Reducing our stress is critical. I think it’s fair to say the US NAVY SEALs know more than us about stress. Set your timer for 2 minutes and engage in some BOX BREATHING. It certainly can’t hurt!

With Gratitude,
