Why don’t we ask for help? Why do we wait until we really reach a breaking point before we cry, “Uncle!” I get it, asking for help can be difficult. It can chip away at our pride, make us question our own competency, and make us feel or appear weak. But it can also do something else — it can help us become incredibly successful. Ah, now there’s the rub. How so, you ask?

Have you ever thought, “If one more thing gets added to my plate, I’m going to break!” Waiting until we reach a breaking point is too late. So, before this moment arises, we should be asking for help for a number of reasons. First, we are the asset, so we must protect it at all cost; a depleted asset serves so one. Second, asking for help brings in different insights that would otherwise have been ignored. Third, asking for help builds up the people around us so they can grow, too. Fourth, asking for help puts most of us outside our comfort zone and that is ALWAYS good for personal growth. And fifth, people want to help, so why not let them!

Today, think of one thing you could really use help with. Do you have it in your mind? Good. Now go ask someone to help you with it. Yes, it is that simple. Part of asking for help can be about delegation, but there is another part that can be about genuine help. Both are important. Why recreate the wheel if someone else already knows how? Either way, asking for help is the right plan of action. Seriously, go ask!

With Gratitude,
PS Before you leave this post, think about what your “plate” would feel like if it had one less thing on it. Wait…did I just hear you breathe a sigh of relief? It’s time to ask for a little bit of help. Be brave, this is all about learning how to be more successful.
