I went into my bathroom yesterday to wash my hands. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a hand scrub that I had bought from my friend, Kerri, at Christmas time. I decided to take an extra minute and treat my hands to a little TLC. Here’s the interesting thing about exfoliating scrubs like this sugar scrub—they’re harsh and gritty and don’t necessarily feel good while you’re scrubbing, but you know it’s doing a good job. The coarseness of the sugar scoffs off all of the old, dead skin cells, so your hands will look and feel like new! It’s a process, but well worth the minute it takes.
Of course, this made me think about all the things I wanted to “exfoliate” from my life, especially since the new year is prime “exfoliating” time. I thought of habits I want to change and routines that have gotten old. I thought of mindsets I no longer want and ruts I have found myself in. I thought of baggage I want to get rid of—physical and emotional—that needs to go. And I thought about some relationships that need some exfoliating, too.
This simple sugar scrub was an eye-opener for me; it reminded me that exfoliating is good for much more than our hands. It taught me that taking time for me and to really think about what needs to stay and what needs to go is important. It’s TLC that we all need. And just like dead skin cells, there are things in our life that stick around too long and we simply need to use a little extra elbow grease to remove them. Let’s help our lives look as amazing as our hands! It won’t feel good in the beginning, but the results will be amazing!
