Mental health is critically important, and I believe the pandemic has wreaked havoc on the foundation on which our mental health rests; we’ve all been impacted in some way. I am not a healthcare professional, nor do I profess to be one, but I have been experiencing the short fuse everyone has right now and I can’t help but wonder if there’s a link.

First it was Naomi Osaka who walked out on ROLAND-GARROS and The French Open due to mental health concerns and now Simone Biles at the Olympics. Their stories may be slightly different then ours, but I still believe we need to take a good look at our own mental health and those around us and simply check in. We need to ask others, “How are you—really?” And we need to be honest with ourselves, “How am I?”

The “brave front” serves no one, and especially not ourselves. It’s time for some seriously open conversations, especially at work. If you’re a leader, now is the time to be vulnerable and compassionate. Single moms and moms caring for their at-home children have an incredibly weighty burden to carry, regardless of how light they make it look. So today is the day we all check in with ourselves and with others. Life is A LOT, it can be hard—really hard, so we need to help each other through the rough spots. Let’s focus on ONLY offering beaucoup amounts of our very best kindness, compassion, genuine caring, and love today and always. Anything else isn’t helping. And if you’re not helping, you’re hurting, and we certainly don’t need that right now. Love or above!
